“I did a similar thing with Ghana students with timber off-cuts from a mill. Students were asked to make a sculpture or model of the larger one we made outside. It was an opportunity for them to start understanding materials and tools. A lot of them were chiefs’ sons and had staff looking after them. They didn’t have a clue how to use saws and hammers.”
